What are the REES AWARDS?

The REES AWARDS recognize individuals and organizations that have demonstrated excellence and achievement in the disability field, and made a significant impact on the disability community.

Debbie Bean Award

Debbie Bean, former Executive Director of REES, embodied the spirit of a diversity Star, whether it was in the promotion of employment of people with disabilities or in the philanthropic efforts in her role as a Community Grants Coordinator with the Winnipeg Foundation. She knew the importance of relationship building and professionalism, and utilized a holistic approach when supporting others to achieve their goals. Through her hard work and commitment, Debbie made a difference in the community of people with disabilities and in the community as a whole.

1.   In Debbie’s memory please nominate an individual who: 

  • Has supported the vision and values of REES
  • Has an understanding of disability issues and accommodation
  • Has made significant contributions to the promotion of disability issues and is recognized as a champion in the community

2.   STAR Employer Award – Large Business (more than 500 employees)

  • Has supported the vision and values of REES
  • Has an understanding of disability issues and accommodation
  • Has successfully hired and/or retained staff with disabilities
  • Has proven itself to be disability friendly

3.   STAR Employer Award – Small/Medium Business (under 500 employees)

  • Has supported the vision and values of REES
  • Has an understanding of disability issues and accommodation
  • Has successfully hired and/or retained staff with disabilities
  • Has proven itself to be disability friendly

4.  STAR Individual Award 

  • Has supported the vision and values of REES
  • Has an understanding of disability issues and accommodation
  • Has reached personal success and made a positive impact on the life of a person with a disability and thus has actively promoted positive views of the disability community

When will the REES Awards be presented?

The Awards will be presented at the annual REES AWARDS “Celebrating the Stars Event” on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Promenade Ballroom at the Norwood Hotel, 112 Marion St.

Who will be considered for the REES Awards?

An individual, organization or business that has demonstrated excellence and achievement, and has made a significant contribution to disability issues, is eligible for nomination for a REES Award. 

How can I nominate an Individual or Organization?

Simply complete and return the attached nomination by cutting and pasting the form into a Word document and emailing it to info@re-es.org, faxing to 947-2932 or mailing to the address below by the deadline date. 

How are the recipients chosen?

A REES Advisory Council evaluates all nominations and makes final recommendations to the REES Board of Directors. 

Who serves on the REES Awards Advisory Council?

The REES Awards Advisory Council includes members of the REES Public Relations/Revenue Generation Committee, who are also members of the REES Board of Directors.

What is the Deadline for Nominations?

Deadline for Nominations is Friday, January 15, 2010. 
All nominations will be acknowledged and award recipients notified by phone.
